10 Ways To Grow Your Email List

10 Ways To Grow Your Email List

A database is one of the most valuable assets you can have.  When someone subscribes to receive emails from you, they are giving you permission to contact them directly. This is sacred and you must be sure to respect this.

Remember to take the time to give your list great content that will engage, inform, inspire or reward them.

Here’s 10 Ways To Grow Your List

1.Website pop-up

A pop-up on your site is a great tool to capture a visitors email however keep in mind that you don’t want to annoy the visitor with constant pop-ups so ensure you set rules around the pop-up.  I tend to recommend a pop-up on exit.

2. Offer something of value

Often referred to as a lead magnet, you can offer something of value to your website visitors or through your social media channels (free and paid).  This can be advice such as a ‘How to..’, a checklist, a template, a cheat sheet, a printable worksheet. See our article on Lead Magnet ideas

3. Host a webinar

You can not underestimate the power of the knowledge you have.  Think about common questions you are asked in your business. Based on these, build up some themes/topics that will enable you to create a webinar that people will value.

4. Offer a coupon / discount code

Why not offer potential customers a discount on their first purchase.  This will encourage them to not only sign up but to also transact with you. Make sure you have a follow-up sequence (e.g. remind them that there coupon is about to expire)

5. Use Facebook and/or Instagram ads

When you know your numbers such as margin and average order value (average value of sale), you can look at what you can afford to spend on advertising to get a potential customer to sign up.  For example, if you have an AOV of $50 and a margin of 50% your gross profit is $25. Can you therefore spend $1, $5, $10 to acquire a email address? Note, generally an email address costs $1 – $2 to acquire so use this as a benchmark for your business.

6. Optimise your website with a Call to Action

Have a look at every page on your website and make sure that you have a call to action on every page that encourages a visitor to sign up. This might be as simple as having an email sign up banner embedded on every page.

7. Optimise your social media channels

Do the social media channels that you use have a clear and prominent call to action?

Make sure you make it easy for followers to sign up to be part of your tribe…. and remember you can have a constant and/or changing incentive such as a lead magnet or discount code.

8. Add a call to action to your email signature

Include a sign up call to action in your email signature that links to your opt-in page on your website.

9. Run a Competition / Giveaway

Run a giveaway that gives your ideal customer a chance to win & experience your product or service.  This is a great way to showcase what you offer and educate people on the benefits of your product or service.  It also gives you a wonderful opportunity to be as creative as you want to be.

10. Collaborate with a complementary product or service

Identify some businesses that would be a nice fit with your business and by working together you can leverage each others brand & communities with the objective being to grow both your databases plus generate further brand awareness through the collaboration.  For example, you may sell beach umbrellas so you may like to look at a collab with a swimwear company that aligns well to your brand.

The above list gives you some solid ways to grow your list but remember you can’t do everything at once so choose 1 – 2 to start with, implement and then move onto the next couple and so on.

BONUS TIP:  Your lead magnet and content will be spot on if you truly understand who your target market is so always remember to think about what they will value and not just what you are prepared to giveaway.
